Intensive Weekend
As IPC students embarked on their mid-semester holiday, campus turned into a mini-Japan for High School Students with a thirst for knowledge learning about the Japanese Language and Culture.
The Intensive weekend programme was undertaken to show high school students that Japanese isn't only used in the Classroom to achieve NCEA credits but can be used in the real world by taking part in Japanese Language classes and traditional cultural activities.
Students from around the Manawatu, Wellington and Central Hawkes Bay took part in events such as Immersion conversation classes, Japanese language scenario games, karate, tea ceremony, a Video conference to Tokyo and the new Saturday entertainment Japanese Fear Factor!
Japanese speaking IPC students were buddies with high school students providing the opportunity to experience full immersion and a taste of what life is like in Japan. Students also experienced student-life at IPC staying in the Halls of Residence and eating meals at the dining hall.
All round everyone had a great time, got very little sleep and made alot of new friends. Highlights from over the weekend included learning self defence and how to bring an attacker to their knees (much thanks to Elers Karate Academy), straightening 'Fros' hair, teams competing for top points by munching their way through Natto, sardines, wasabi and other Japanese foods, go team Ni!
The next Japanese Language and Culture Weekend will be held at the start of March in Term 1. If you are interested in attending, call 0800 FOR IPC (0800 367 472).
