A Visit of the LTCL Trinity Chief Examiner Huan Japes to IPC

By Gillian Claridge.

On Wednesday, 9th December, we were fortunate to have a visit from Huan Japes, the Chief Examiner from Trinity College London. Fifteen English teachers from IPC attended two sessions given by Huan, in which he described the Trinity Diploma and Certificate ESOL training courses, and discussed them with us. Trinity is revising its assessment descriptors for the Diploma, so our teachers were able to give Huan some valuable input. He gave us some useful pointers which will help to standardise our Cert and Dip observations and our assessment of the portfolio section of the Dip.

It was felt that IPC might implement Trinity courses more extensively in its professional development for staff, as the Trinity mix of theory and practice was seen to be very appropriate to IPC needs.

Lunch and dinner were very pleasant occasions, hosted by Professor Wayne Edwards on behalf of IPC, and Huan returned to Auckland in the evening, promising to return in his capacity as examiner for our next Dip course.
