On Wednesday, 18th of November, an eco-tourism seminar was held in the IPC Senior Common Room. The topic of this seminar was "Sensitive Issues of Eco-Tourism in Indigenous Communities: Threat or Benefit?"

Presentations to the students and staff members were made by four students completing their International Studies in Eco-Tourism degree this December. They were Mina Ueyama (2006 student from Japan), Zoe Llado-Hall (2007 student from New Zealand), Nagisa Mori (2005 student from Japan), and Magali Karno (2008 student from New Caledonia).

After a basic description of what Eco-Tourism is, each presenter went on to examine a different set of problems and questions related to the topic. Their presentations included case studies as well as their own views of the problems.

Charts, pictures and videos are used to make the presentation easily understood by the audience

For most of the presenters, this work was the culmination of 3 years of study at IPC. To make the information easily understood by the audience, who were mostly students from other study majors, all the presenters included charts, pictures, and videos in their Powerpoint presentations.

One of the presenters, Mina Ueyama, commented, "I have done many presentations before but this is the first time I did it in front of lecturers and students from different levels and majors. It took us 4 weeks to prepare these presentations and all of us have given our best. It has been a new experience to be able to present what we have learnt so far. We enjoyed the process. We also feel that our class solidarity was strengthened by it and we made good memories along the way. Lastly, I would like to thank my lecturer, Marie Francoise Reding, for giving us this valuable opportunity."

There were also comments from members of the audience, such as "The content is rich. Well done." "Such interesting case studies! I was drawn into them in no time." "I think the presenters have delivered their presentations with confidence and at the level of advanced students."

Congratulations and best wishes to the four graduating students!
