The sound of children's chatter and laughter could be heard around IPC campus on Thursday, 1st October. A group of 65 children from the Lido Aquatic Centre Holiday Programme came to interact with IPC students and learn about cultures of other countries.
Welcoming the children were students from 3 Foundation classes and an International Sports Studies class. They interacted with the children and engaged them in some cultural activities such as: learning to count from 1 to 5 or 1 to 10 in Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and Thai; writing their names in Japanese characters; and learning Japanese and Chinese songs. There was also an activity called "Samurai Mitai!" (=Like a samurai!). For this, the children made samurai paper hats from newspapers and learned to praise each other using 2 Japanese phrases, "Kakkoii-" (=Cool) and "Niau ne!" (=That hat looks good on you!).
Afterwards, the children had lunch with the students either in the dining hall or outside in the spring sunshine. According to one of the lecturers of the classes involved, Kerstin Meinecke, the students were tired but they enjoyed talking with the children and were surprised by how quickly the children learned. The students hope that the children will have a good memory of spending a day of their spring holiday at IPC.
