On Monday, 11th May, IPC Board Chairman Hiroshi Ohashi and IPC President Wayne Edwards met with Massey University President, Steve Maharey, and the CEO of Destination Manawatu, Lance Bickford. Destination Manawatu is a Regional Tourism Organisation (RTO) responsible for economic development in the Manawatu region from a tourism perspective (http://www.manawatunz.co.nz/).
This meeting was held in order to give an opportunity for the new IPC President to formally meet the Massey University President. Steve Maharey was a New Zealand Member of Parliament for Palmerston North and has supported IPC since its establishment in 1990.
Steve commented that it was good to see the growth of IPC in the last 2 decades. He also conveyed his confidence that Wayne Edwards was an excellent choice for President of IPC as it goes into its 20th year. Wayne held the position of Head of School of Educational Studies at Massey University and holds the title of Emeritus Professor.
The recently promoted CEO of Destination Manawatu, Lance Bickford, was also enthusiastic about the prospect of collaboration between IPC and Massey University. He expressed the hope that that this would not just contribute to the growth of the two institutions, but would also promote Palmerston North as "Student City", with its treasure of knowledge, and encourage much more growth in the wider Manawatu region.
