This Year Three IPC Students are going to study at IPU in Okayama
By Nagataka Tsutsumi and Shirley Ghozalli
As part of the Student Exchange Program between International Pacific University and IPC, which started last year, three IPC students have been chosen to study at IPU this year. They are: Emma Harris, Yeon Ji Oh and Timothy Bunting. On 26th August, a morning tea was held to farewell the three students. The deans and lecturers of International Studies, Japanese Studies and EOC were present and gave the students encouragement. A reporter from a local major newspaper also came to cover the story. Those three students are going to Japan in the middle of September and after they arrive in Japan, they will have orientation activities. They start studying on 1st October.
Here are some comments from the students:
Timothy Bunting:
"I intend to improve my Japanese somehow. I'd like to make lots of friends and live a full life there. I watched a sport called handball for the first time on TV during this year's Olympics in Beijing. It seems IPU also has a handball club. I am interested in this sport because it is similar to the sport I used to do, water polo. I would like to give it a try. "
Yeonji Oh:
"I went to Japan for a year when I was in high school. I thought then that I wanted to visit it again. As well as being able to help IPU students with their English, I think I will be able to improve my Japanese. I'm planning to learn Japanese history and at the same time, to experience its traditional culture and pop culture."
Emma Harris:
"I'm looking forward to the student life and club activities in Japan. I feel that I will have some responsibility for improving IPU students' English skills. IPU is in Okayama but when I hear Okayama, I only know the folktale 'Momotaro'. That is why I really want to experience many things there. I can't wait to try onigiri and ramen."
