Two weeks of cancellations and disappointment finally came to one day of perfect weather for the IPC Ski Trip, A holiday that was almost wasted. A group of IPC staff and students hit the snow at Mount Ruapehu - Turoa on the 11th of August. Waking up at about 5:30 the same day to prepare themselves for the drive to the mountain, majority of the students slept like logs in the van.
When we arrived at the mountain, the snow looked and felt perfect! We threw a few snowballs at each other and then went snowboarding on the Lower Mountain as it was the first time most of us were snowboarding.
We eventually split up and started snowboarding by ourselves in small groups. I ended up taking a next step lesson available on the ski field and went up on to the ski lift to snowboard back down to the bottom of the mountain. In the process, I managed to hit a kid by accident and snow plow a lady in a two meter while trying to stop. The Snowboard instructor said "Don't worry! Two points", Woo hoo!
At the end of the day, our bodies were aching and our bums were sore from falling down so much, but we had a memorable time on the ski field.
