Gravity Canyon

By Rebecca McIntyre and Gregory Ng

On Sat 10th May and again on the 3rd of June a van load of IPC students anxiously made its way to the heart of the North Island for what was to be a day of extreme adrenaline! Mokau Gravity Canyon, just out of Taihape, operates the world's longest flying fox, 80m bungy and largest bridge swing - not for the faint hearted. As part of orientation week some students jump-started their academic year at IPC, and during mid term break more gave their year a big boost.

Gregory Ng, 2nd year BIS student describes his experience in a special interview:
"An 80 m drop into the unknown awaits. The thinnest of wires suspends you above the raging rapids below. 5, 4, 3, "Arggh" someone drops you and you fall down the canyon, lost for breath as you feel gravity take its hold. Luckily, you are at Gravity Canyon - one of the most extreme places in the North Island, so you swing back upwards with glee on your face as the euphoria rushes to your head. Yes, that's right, there are places in New Zealand where you can face danger and fear, reach speeds of up to 160km on the world's longest flying fox, scream like a little girl and fall well over 80m into the canyon and beyond. Many of us at IPC have experienced the thrills and near spills at NZ's premium extreme activity site, so you too should take the plunge and enjoy the euphoria and excitement that comes with an 80 m bungee drop."

So, what are you waiting for? Face your fears, take part in IPC activities, and join in the excitement!
