Environmental Studies
Everything we do, at some stage, will impact in one way or another on the environment. Increasingly, businesses and government agencies are having to take environmental issues into account as part of their everyday activities. Environmental Studies help students to understand environmental issues of international significance.
Human environments from around the world are studied in this programme as are issues such as global warming, pollution, endangered species, genetic modification, natural hazards, alien invasive species, overpopulation, renewable and non-renewable resources and recycling. The roles of governments, businesses, non-government organisations and international agencies and the possibilities for international cooperation in achieving global sustainable management and development are also studied.
The Environmental Major can be applied directly to the above opportunities. Graduates will also have the broader knowledge gained from Language, Business and International Relations papers that are included in the Degree program. Students will also have the ability to prepare submissions to local/central government authorities, affecting official planning processes and local / national environmental development.

Hollei Gabrielson
Environmental Officer, Rangitane
I use what I learned at IPC every day in my role as an Environmental Officer. My role includes responding to resource consent applications, advising on the protection and maintenance of Historical and Cultural sites, protecting the regions Rivers and Waterways, Treaty assessments, dealing with associated companies, and much more! I directed my BIS Interdisciplinary project towards my current job. This allowed me to tailor my studies to gaining specific employment, and the research has given me an in-depth knowledge that I apply every day.
